How do we see the world? What can we see when we encounter cultures other than our own and how do we talk about it? We trust our seeing, we seek confirmation of truths with it. But seeing has two sides: Not only does it shape the way we think and construct our world, but it is simultaneously determined by our mental structures. Often, how we see others is exactly what we have been waiting for: The place they occupy in our world is already predetermined. Is this really seeing?

This project came about after a visit to Karail Basti in Bangladesh, where I set myself the exercise of seeing. The book collects images, different definitions of vision disorders and excerpts from the lost recordings of conversations I had with children. The resulting associations, memories and blurred impressions attempt to create a new, flexible atlas of vision.
