Hi! I’m Adriana, a young sculptor,
researcher and art educator based in Berlin.
I create large scale installations with different materials such as metal, plaster and acrylic, as well as video and light.
I strive to make unconsciously internalized patterns, ideas and prejudices visible through my work. My research focuses on image production, perception, identity and colonialism.
I am interested in how we unconsciously appropriate these given forms and repeat them, e.g. through our own image production and our arrangement of the world into categories.
I translate these often unnoticeable mechanisms into physical spaces and make them visible. I explore with materials to create smooth and opaque surfaces that play with the question of seeing and not seeing, as well as the inside and outside.
Adriana Bickel (1991, Guatemala) holds a Bachelor in Sculpture for the PUCP and a Master in Spatial Strategies by the kunsthochschule berlin weisensee. In the past, she has taught at Corriente Alterna Academy of Arts in Lima and at the sculpture department in the PUCP. In addition to her individual artistic practice and her teaching, she was part of SERES cultural platform, HERMES investigation group and we_spam art collective.
